How It Works

From rent payment to credit profile, step by step.

You already pay rent on time. TruLink makes that effort visible — verifying your payments and reporting them to the credit bureaus so your rent can help build your credit.

How TruLink works in four steps

1. Sign up

Getting started is simple and only takes a few minutes. Provide some basic information about you and your landlord to start building credit with rent — plus you can add up to 4 years of past rent payments.

2. Verify your rent

Once we validate your information, your rent is verified each month through your landlord via text or email, or through your connected bank account. Make sure your landlord's contact information is up to date and that they're opted in to receive messages.

3. We report your payments

Your rent payment history is reported to the credit bureaus and added to your credit report as “RR/Residence.”

4. Watch your credit improve

Consistently reporting your on-time rent can help you build your credit over time — opening doors to better rates, new credit approvals, or even homeownership.

Results vary and are not guaranteed. On-time rent reporting can help build credit in scoring models that include rental data, such as VantageScore and newer FICO models; not all lenders or models use rental payment history.

Before you start

What you'll need to sign up

Have a few basics handy and you can be set up in minutes. There's no hard credit pull to enroll.

  • Basic personal details (name, address, contact info)
  • Your monthly rent amount
  • Your landlord's current contact information (or your bank login to verify directly)
  • Details of any past rent you'd like added (up to 4 years)
Good to know

Two ways to verify your rent

Through your landlord — we reach out by text or email each month to confirm your payment. Keep their contact details current and make sure they're opted in to messages.

Through your bank — securely link the account you pay rent from and we can verify payments directly, no landlord participation required.

Quick answers about the process

No. Enrolling in TruLink does not involve a hard credit inquiry, so it won't lower your score from a pull.
